It is kind of a crazy feeling to see places that you have learned about in school your whole life. It makes it so much more real when you can see it with your own eyes. You can see the battlefields and imagine the battles that happened there. It makes you understand a little bit better just how scary those fights must have been and how much those men that fought that war sacrificed. I will never be the same after our visit to Gettysburg.
There was no way we could be just a few hours away from Gettysburg and not visit it. We wanted to make sure that when we took the kids that they understood what happened there. Before we headed out we watched a documentary on it. I was afraid it was just going to be a bunch of fields and that the kids would get bored really quick but I was so wrong. It was very interesting for all of us. We spent most of the day there trying to understand how those soldiers must have felt and tried to understand more what was given for us and our country there in that sacred place.
